learning computers in Tanzania

Just found this. I wrote it in 2004. things have changed a lot in Dar,
but most of the country is pretty much the same.
 
"it's very hard to learn computers in a country where the university
has considerably less technology than the wealthy individuals who can
afford it. For example, I traveled to an internet cafe to type this
because the ones on campus (30 cents an hour) were all full. This one
is a DOLLAR an hour. And it's not even that fast."
 
and from the same email:
 
"HELP. i can't speak swahili OR english."
